Never Rains But It Pours

My 6 week old laptop has a bad hard drive, it's in the possession of the Geek Squad and we're waiting for recovery media from Toshiba. Due to the flooding in my area it took me 4 days to get the computer there. We now must wait 7 to 10 days for the recovery media to arrive in my mailbox and then I must take it to The Geeks and wait 7 to 10 more days for new hard drive installation and recovery. Toshiba charged me for the recovery flashdrive claiming it isn't their product. Wouldn't need it if they'd built my laptop correctly but they won't listen to that.

I'm not complaining even though I have limited access to the internet because I am not among the hundreds of people who are homeless locally waiting for the flood waters to subside so I can go home to the mess of cleanup and repairs. Real life has become dangerous here, even for me and I live in an elevated area.

The ground is so saturated from the heavy rains that happen daily that although we aren't flooding, our roads are washing out, bridges are washing away and sink holes are appearing. Thee is so much water in ditches that with every rain rocks are being washed up onto road beds and shoulders are wearing away. It's hot, humid and every day it rains.

I've been volunteering at local shelters and Red Cross kitchens and am not sur3 how much longer these conditions will prevail. When this is all over and I get my computer back I'll be returning to my regularly scheduled nonsense, but in the meantime will you all hold a few good thoughts or prayers for the people in Central New York who are dealing with the loss of their  homes?

    1. Things seem to have quieted down here although it's going to get hot and humid again in the next day or so. That will mean more rain and possibly more flood warnings. We'll see.

  3. Sherry,
We have had much similar weather here, double a month's worth of rain in 24 hours. Flooding, washed out roads, landslips - where just four months or so ago we were in drought conditions. Stay safe and know that we can truly empathize. About the computer though, Toshiba billed you for a flash drive that they say isn't/wasn't their product? How does that work exactly?

    1. Saddest thing I've ever seen is the flooding that occurred locally. What a nightmare for these poor people.

The operating system on the computer is a Microsoft product. Had I taken a flash drive and backed up my OS when I first got the laptop, I wouldn't have had to buy it. Live and learn.

  4. I am on the dividing line of too much rain and not enough, flooding a couple hundered miles east, drought a hundred miles west, in the goldilocks zone. Hope the roads hold up for you Sherry.

    1. All but 2 of the roads I normally travel on held up except for washing out some culverts, keeping folks trapped in their own homes for a few days until the county could replace them. Funny thing that cars can't leap 4 feet from driveway to road when the culvert isn't there to drive over. Had a client get upset that I wouldn't wade across to her house through chest deep water.

  5. I am thinking about jacking up my house and putting it on floats. Keeps raining here...Constant flood warnings.

    1. I hear that. We're under flash flood warning until further notice. At least I got to Best Buy to get my computer back after it got fixed. Not so sure that's a good thing.

  6. You need thoughts and prayers, you got 'em! We've had rain every day this week and we are at saturation, too. Our ditches and drainage system are in crap shape, and our roads are deteriorating. But the new flowers the county paid for and planted are just beautiful. A little more maintenance would be nice but they have other priorities.

    1. SLICK!!!

Didn't need the prayers for me, but I know folks who lost their homes in this flood situation. Some of them can't be moved back into even with renovation and clean up. Knocked off their foundations, and they don't know if the insurance will cover the tearing down and rebuilding.

Some didn't have flood insurance because they don't live in a flood zone. Who knew dry creek beds were so capable of so much destruction?
